How to Check KCET 2027 Mock Allotment Result
Go to cetonline.karnataka.gov.in after 11 AM on the result date. Click UGCET 2026, then Mock Allotment Result. Log in with your KCET application number and password (or date of birth, depending on the portal version). Your mock allotment letter shows the college name, branch code, category under which the seat was allotted, and the annual tuition fee for that seat.
Download and save the mock allotment PDF. The portal is typically slow on release morning – over 2 lakh students access it simultaneously. How to Read Your Mock Allotment Letter
The mock allotment letter contains six fields that matter. Your CET number and name confirm identity. The allotted college name and college code identify which institution you got. The branch name and branch code (like CS for Computer Science, IS for Information Science, EC for Electronics) tell you which programme. The category field shows whether the seat came from GM (General Merit), 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B, SC, ST, or Category-1 quota. The fee column shows the annual tuition for that specific seat type.
Pay close attention to the category field. If you belong to SC but the allotment shows a GM seat, it means no SC-quota seat matched your option list at your rank – KEA allotted you on open merit instead. This isn't necessarily bad (a GM seat at a good college is still a good outcome), but it means you might get a better college-branch combination if you add more options where your category quota has higher closing ranks. What the Mock Allotment Actually Means
Three outcomes are possible, and each requires a different response.
What to do based on your mock allotment outcome
You got your first or second choice. Good sign. Your rank, option order, and category aligned well with seat availability. You can leave your options unchanged – but consider adding one or two more ambitious colleges above your current first choice. Between mock and final allotment, some higher-ranked students withdraw, freeing seats you might not have expected.
You got a lower preference – 5th, 8th, or 12th on your list. Your higher choices are filling at ranks better than yours. Use the modification window to rearrange: push realistic colleges higher and remove aspirational options that clearly won't fill at your rank. No allotment at all. This means none of your listed colleges had seats at your rank in any category. It does not mean you won't get a seat in Round 1 – the mock is a snapshot, not a final result. But you must act immediately: add 10 – 15 more colleges across different cities and branches. Students who got no mock allotment and didn't modify their options almost always get no Round 1 allotment either.

What to do after mock allotment depends heavily on where your rank falls.
KCET Rank Under 5,000
At this range, you're competing for CSE and IS at RVCE, BMSCE, MSRIT, UVCE, and PES University. If your mock shows one of these, your position is strong. If it shows a Tier 2 college like DSCE or NHCE for CSE, consider whether you listed RVCE/BMSCE for a less popular branch (ME, CV) – that might give a better overall outcome. KCET Rank 5,000 – 15,000
This is the widest competitive band. CSE at SIT Tumkur, NIE Mysore, DSCE, and NHCE falls in this range. If your mock shows an ECE or ME seat at a strong college, don't dismiss it – the college's alumni network and placement cell matter more than the branch name. KCET Rank 15,000 – 50,000
CSE options narrow to mid-tier and emerging colleges. Don't fixate on CSE alone – IS and AI&ML branches have identical placement outcomes at most VTU colleges and fill at 2,000 – 5,000 ranks higher than CSE. If your mock shows a college you haven't heard of, research it before deleting: check whether it has NAAC accreditation, placement data, and active training partnerships. KCET Rank Above 50,000
At this range, government engineering colleges in district headquarters (Hassan, Ramanagara, Haveri) are your strongest option. Fees are under ₹25,000/year. What Changed Between Mock and Round 1 in Previous Years
The mock allotment is a reliable indicator but not identical to Round 1. Based on patterns from 2023 – 2025 counselling cycles, roughly 60 – 70% of students got the same college-branch in Round 1 as their mock showed. About 20 – 25% got a better outcome in Round 1 (because higher-ranked students shifted or withdrew during the modification window). Around 10 – 15% got a slightly different but equivalent outcome.
The biggest shifts happen in Tier 2 and Tier 3 colleges where seat counts are large and withdrawal rates are higher. Tier 1 colleges (RVCE, BMSCE, MSRIT for CSE) rarely shift – if your mock shows RVCE CSE, you're almost certainly getting it in Round 1 too.
Branch-Wise Trends in KCET 2027 Mock Allotment
Computer Science (CSE/ISE) continues to have the tightest closing ranks. With 3.12 lakh candidates ranked in 2026 (up from 2.95 lakh in 2025), CSE cutoffs tightened by an estimated 50 – 150 ranks at top colleges compared to last year.
AI&ML and Data Science are newer VTU branch codes. In the 2026 mock allotment, AI&ML closing ranks at RVCE and BMSCE ran 500 – 1,500 ranks higher than core CSE. Demand is growing at roughly 30% per year, but placement data for these specific codes is still limited since the first full batches graduated only in 2025-26.
Electronics & Communication (ECE) saw increased demand in 2026, driven by semiconductor investments in Karnataka (Micron and Texas Instruments facilities in Bangalore). ECE closing ranks tightened at Tier 1 colleges but remained stable at Tier 2 and below.
Mechanical (ME) and Civil (CV) fill at significantly higher rank numbers (lower demand). If your rank puts you at a weak college for CSE, a strong Tier 1 college for ME or CV might be the better long-term choice – especially if you plan to write GATE for PSU recruitment (BHEL, ISRO, HAL all have Karnataka facilities).
The Accept / Upgrade / Reject Decision After Round 1
After Round 1 final allotment on July 15, you see three options. Understanding these correctly is critical – choosing wrong can lock you into an unwanted seat or cause you to lose a good one.
Accept and Freeze: You take this seat permanently. No further rounds. Choose this only if you got your top preference and have zero interest in upgrading.
Accept and Upgrade (Slide Up): You confirm this seat as a safety net, but remain in the system for Round 2. If a better college-branch opens up in Round 2, KEA automatically upgrades you. If nothing better is available, you keep the current seat. This is the safest choice for most students – it guarantees you a seat while keeping the door open.
Reject: You give up this seat entirely and wait for Round 2 with no guarantee. Only choose this if the allotted seat is unacceptable and you have a strong backup (COMEDK allotment, management quota, or a different stream entirely). Documents Needed When Reporting After Allotment
Once you accept a Round 1 or Round 2 seat, you report to the allotted college with original documents. The standard list: KCET admit card and rank card, Class 10 and 12 marks cards (originals), transfer certificate from last institution, migration certificate (if applicable), caste/category certificate (for reserved categories), income certificate (for fee concession), Aadhaar card, and 4 passport-sized photographs. SC/ST students should also carry the SSP scholarship application receipt if they've applied – some colleges process the fee waiver during reporting itself. Frequently Asked Questions
Is mock allotment the same as final allotment?
No. Mock allotment is a trial run KEA publishes using current option entries. The Round 1 final allotment on July 15 is the actual seat – it requires fee payment at Karnataka Bank to confirm. No payment or reporting is needed for mock allotment.
What if my mock allotment shows a college I don't want?
Use the modification window to add better colleges above it or rearrange your preferences. You can push unwanted options lower or add better ones above. Don't delete colleges entirely unless you are sure you would reject the seat even as a safety net.
Will my mock allotment college definitely be my Round 1 result?
About 60 – 70% of students get the same result. But between mock and Round 1, some students withdraw or rearrange options, freeing seats. Your final outcome depends on your updated option list and live seat availability on July 15.
I didn't get an allotment in mock. Should I panic?

What happens if I don't modify after mock allotment?
Your original option entry stays unchanged. KEA runs Round 1 on July 15 using whatever you submitted by June 30. Not modifying is fine if you're happy with the mock outcome. But after the modification deadline, no changes are possible until Round 2.
Should I choose Accept and Freeze, or Accept and Upgrade?
Almost always choose Accept and Upgrade (Slide Up). It keeps your current seat safe while giving KEA permission to move you to a better option in Round 2 if one opens up. Accept and Freeze only makes sense if you got your absolute first choice and want to close the process immediately.
When does Round 2 counselling start?
Round 2 option entry ran August 7 – 13, 2026. Round 2 allotment is expected around August 19. A Mop-up round and possibly an Extended Mop-up typically follow in September – October. Exact dates are published by KEA at cetonline.karnataka.gov.in after each round concludes.
