BA colleges in Mysore start at ₹3,200 at Besant Evening College (CollegeDekho) and about ₹25,000 for a full BA at JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science (CollegeBatch), and reach ₹75,000 for BA Journalism at JSS College for Women (Collegedunia). Portals count 14 to 22 colleges, and fees change with the programme you pick.
How Many BA Colleges Are There in Mysore?
Portals disagree again. Getmyuni shows 14 BA colleges in Mysore and Collegedunia lists 22, as displayed in September 2026, while CollegeDekho lists 15 on a page last updated on 14 July 2025. Careers360's Mysore page showed only two colleges in its main results. The gap comes partly from what each portal counts: the open university, an NCERT institute and Sanskrit study centres appear on some lists and not on others.
The city's arts colleges fall into four groups: constituent and government colleges of the University of Mysore, autonomous aided colleges such as St Philomena's and JSS, women's colleges such as Maharani's and Teresian, and the Karnataka State Open University for distance study. Most are affiliated to the University of Mysore.
Our Mysore degree college directory covers BA, BSc and BCom side by side, and the BA colleges across Karnataka guide puts Mysore next to the rest of the state.
Government vs Private BA Fees in Mysore
Anyone checking BA course fees Mysore will find listed figures that run from ₹3,200 to ₹2,40,000. The table names the source for each, sorted from lowest to highest.
| College and programme | Type as listed | Fee listed (₹) | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Besant Evening College | Local body | 3,200 | CollegeDekho |
| Government First Grade College, BA History | Government | 12,800 | Collegedunia |
| Srimanmaharaja Samskrita Graduation Center | Private | 13,500 | CollegeDekho |
| Maharani's Arts and Science College for Women | Government | 22,310 (3 years) | Collegedunia |
| JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, English, Kannada, History | Private, autonomous | 25,000 (8,333 a year) | CollegeBatch |
| Karnataka State Open University | Open university | 26,620 | Collegedunia |
| Maharaja's College | Government or private, by portal | 41,580 (3 years) | Collegedunia |
| Regional Institute of Education, integrated BA and B.Ed | Government | 54,584 | Collegedunia |
| St Philomena's College | Autonomous | 55,860 to 95,955 (18,620 to 31,985 a year) | CollegeBatch |
| JSS College for Women, BA Journalism | Private, autonomous | 75,000 | Collegedunia |
| Teresian College | Private | 2,40,000 | Collegedunia |
Teresian College's ₹2,40,000 is the only figure above ₹1 lakh in this table, and we could not confirm it from a second source, so treat it as unverified. The ordinary range for a BA in Mysore is far lower: about ₹13,000 to ₹96,000 for a full course, according to the entries above.
Where the sources contradict each other
| College | What each source says |
|---|---|
| JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science | CollegeBatch: ₹25,000 for English or Kannada, ₹27,000 for Economics, ₹70,200 for Journalism. Collegedunia: ₹31,950 for Economics, ₹75,000 for Kannada. Getmyuni: ₹48,000 to ₹56,000 |
| Maharaja's College | Collegedunia lists it as government at ₹41,580; CollegeDekho lists it as private |
| St Philomena's College | Type: private aided (CollegeDekho), private (Collegedunia), public autonomous (CollegeBatch). Fees: ₹55,860 to ₹95,955 in total (CollegeBatch), ₹58,000 to ₹1.73 lakh (Getmyuni) |
3 Things to Check Before Trusting a Fee Figure
1. Full course or one year. Maharani's ₹22,310 covers three years, while St Philomena's ₹18,620 to ₹31,985 is per year. Put every figure on a three-year basis first.
2. Programme, not just college. JSS charges ₹8,333 a year for English and ₹23,400 for Journalism on CollegeBatch. Collegedunia's ₹75,000 for BA Kannada at the same college is three times CollegeBatch's Kannada figure, so at least one of them is wrong or refers to a different programme.
3. The category label. Portals disagree on whether a college is government, aided, private or autonomous. This is our reading of the sources, so treat the college's own current fee notice as final.
Government BA colleges Mysore applicants shortlist first, meaning those labelled government on at least one portal, include Maharaja's College (established 1889, NAAC grade A per Collegedunia) and Maharani's Arts and Science College for Women. See the Maharaja's College profile for the details we hold.
Subject Combinations at Arts Colleges in Mysore
Arts colleges in Mysore differ more in subject range than in anything else, so check the exact programme before you apply.
| College | BA programmes listed | Source |
|---|---|---|
| JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science | Economics, English, Geography, History, Kannada, Political Science, Public Administration, Journalism and Communication Studies | CollegeBatch |
| St Philomena's College | Economics, English, Hindi, History, Journalism, Kannada, Office Management, Psychology, Sociology, Computer Applications; Criminology also appears on Collegedunia | CollegeBatch, Collegedunia |
| JSS College for Women | Journalism | Collegedunia |
| Maharani's Arts and Science College for Women | English Language and Literature, plus one more subject option | Collegedunia |
| Maharaja's College | BA General | Collegedunia |
Psychology is listed at St Philomena's, and a student aiming to practise as a clinical psychologist needs a postgraduate qualification recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India, so plan the PG college early. Criminology is a rarer BA and appears only on St Philomena's Collegedunia entry, at ₹98,145.
Students drawn to design should compare fine arts colleges in Karnataka first, and those aiming at teaching should read about B.Ed colleges for teaching. The Regional Institute of Education's integrated BA and B.Ed listing is the direct route on this page.
Placements: What the Data Shows
Collegedunia shows concrete placement figures for only three of its 22 Mysore listings. The Regional Institute of Education shows an average package of ₹4,00,000 and a highest of ₹12,00,000, St Philomena's College an average of ₹4,00,000 and a highest of ₹9,00,000, and SBRR Mahajana First Grade College a highest of ₹7,50,000. Every other listing is blank.
Those are reported figures, not audited reports, and none states how many students registered or how many were placed. Ask any college for the batch-wise report, the number of offers, and the median (not the average) salary.
| Next step after BA | What it usually requires |
|---|---|
| School teacher | A B.Ed after the degree, or an integrated BA and B.Ed |
| Lawyer | Any bachelor's degree, then a three-year LLB |
| Manager | Any bachelor's degree, then an MBA entrance such as PGCET or KMAT |
| Civil services | Any bachelor's degree, then the UPSC or KPSC examination cycle |
| Clinical psychologist | RCI-recognised postgraduate qualification |
| Journalist | Internships and a portfolio; a mass communication PG helps |
Graduates leaning towards management can compare MBA options after graduation in the same city.

2. Autonomous colleges. St Philomena's and the JSS colleges are listed as autonomous, so read each college's own admission notice for its process and dates.

How to Choose Between BA Colleges in Mysore
The best BA colleges in Mysore for you are the ones that fit your next step, not the ones at the top of a portal ranking. Work through four questions in order.
Factor 1: What comes after the BA? For a state exam, an MA or law, a low-fee college leaves room for coaching. For journalism or psychology, choose the college that lists that exact programme.
Factor 2: Total cost. Convert every fee to a three-year total, then add books and transport.
Factor 3: Programme and staff. Ask for the programme in writing, plus the second-year faculty list.
Factor 4: Location. Ask how far each campus is from where you will live, and compare rent and transport, not just the fee. Our guide to the top degree colleges in Mysore covers BCom and BSc as well.
Weighing other cities? Compare BA fees in Mangalore, government and private BA fees in Bangalore or Hassan's degree colleges. Still deciding on a stream? Read courses after 12th commerce, or ask about admission assistance for Karnataka colleges.
