BA colleges in Bangalore split into two fee bands. Government colleges listed by Promilo charge roughly ₹2,000 to ₹15,000 a year, while private universities such as Christ, Kristu Jayanti and St Joseph's show total course fees of about ₹2.5 lakh to ₹5 lakh on Collegedunia. Most admit on PUC or 12th marks; a few add an entrance test.
How Many BA Colleges Are There in Bangalore?
It depends on who is counting. Collegedunia lists 136 BA colleges in Bangalore, CollegeDekho says about 145 (6 government and 117 private), and Shiksha's page shows 255. All three figures were displayed on each site in September 2026, and the portals do not explain the gap. The likely cause is scope: standalone degree colleges, university departments and institutions that run a BA only as a side programme are counted differently.
Bangalore's BA colleges fall into three groups: government first-grade colleges affiliated to Bengaluru City University or Bangalore University, aided colleges, and private colleges or deemed universities. Fees, admission routes and campus facilities differ sharply between the three.
Rather than scroll through hundreds of listings, filter by stream in our Bangalore degree college directory. For the state-level picture, the BA colleges across Karnataka guide covers fees and admission outside the city.
Government vs Private BA Fees in Bangalore
Searches for BA course fees Bangalore return numbers that rarely agree. The two tables below keep each source separate, so the disagreement is visible instead of averaged away.
Table 1: Annual fees at government and aided colleges, as listed by Promilo (September 2026)
| College | Annual fee (₹) | Listed as |
|---|---|---|
| Government First Grade College | 2,000–3,000 | Government |
| Central College | 5,000–8,000 | Government |
| Government Arts College | 5,000–10,000 | Government |
| NMKRV College for Women | 8,000–12,000 | Government |
| Maharani Lakshmi Ammanni College | 9,000–15,000 | Government |
Table 2: Total course fee at private and university options, as listed by Collegedunia (September 2026)
| College | Total course fee (₹) |
|---|---|
| Maharani Lakshmi Ammanni College | 1,20,000 |
| Presidency College | 2,00,000 |
| Kristu Jayanti University | 2,45,000 |
| Mount Carmel College Autonomous | 3,49,800 |
| St Joseph's University | 3,56,000 |
| Jain University | 4,50,000 |
| Christ University | 5,08,000 |
Read together, the tables contradict each other. Maharani Lakshmi Ammanni College appears at ₹9,000 to ₹15,000 a year on Promilo and at ₹1,20,000 in total on Collegedunia. Christ University shows ₹18,000 to ₹81,000 a year on Promilo, ₹75,000 to ₹1.2 lakh a year on ABBS's blog, and ₹5,08,000 in total on Collegedunia. The highest per-year figure for Christ is more than six times the lowest.
3 Reasons Fee Figures Differ Between Websites
1. Per-year versus total-course numbers. A three-year total looks three times larger than an annual fee, and many pages do not label which one they show.
2. Programme variants. BA, BA Honours, triple-major and specialisation tracks can be priced differently inside one college, and a portal may quote whichever it scraped.
3. Stale fee sheets. Aggregator pages often carry last year's fee notice. This is our assessment from comparing the sources above, so treat the college's own current fee notice as the only final figure.
Government BA colleges Bangalore applicants shortlist first, such as Central College and Government Arts College, make the most sense when the plan after graduation is civil services, a state exam or a low-cost path into an MA. Private colleges earn their fees only when a placement cell, a specialization or a campus network is the reason you are choosing them.
BA Specializations Offered at Arts Colleges in Bangalore
Arts colleges in Bangalore rarely offer identical specialization lists, so check the exact combination before you apply. The table shows what ABBS and Promilo report for four widely searched colleges.
| College | Specializations reported | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Christ University | English, Psychology, Economics, Media Studies, Performing Arts, triple-major combinations | ABBS |
| Mount Carmel College | History, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, Communication Studies | ABBS |
| St Joseph's University | Visual Communication, English, International Relations, Industrial Relations | ABBS |
| Kristu Jayanti College | Journalism, Psychology, English Literature, Performing Arts | ABBS |
| Common across the city | Psychology, Journalism and Mass Communication, Economics, English Literature, Political Science, Sociology, History | Promilo |
A BA Psychology graduate who wants to practise as a clinical psychologist needs a postgraduate qualification recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India, so the choice of PG college matters more than the undergraduate brand. Journalism is the reverse: newsroom internships and a portfolio count for more than the marks card.
Students drawn to design or visual work should compare fine arts colleges in Karnataka before settling on a BA. Those leaning towards business can weigh the BBA colleges worth comparing in the city, or the shorter list of top 20 BBA colleges.
Placement Numbers: What Bangalore BA Colleges Report
Promilo lists average packages of ₹5.5 to ₹5.7 lakh a year for Christ University, with a highest package of ₹20 lakh and recruiters such as Deloitte, Zomato and Amazon. It lists ₹4 to ₹6 lakh for St Claret College with a highest package of ₹20 to ₹24 lakh, and ₹4 to ₹6.5 lakh for Bangalore University with a highest package of ₹15 lakh and recruiters including TCS, Wipro, Accenture and Dell. Kristu Jayanti's figures run from ₹3 to ₹6 lakh across the entries Promilo shows, with Accenture, Concentrix and American Express named as recruiters.
These are reported figures, not audited placement reports. A BA average that matches a BBA average usually means the sample counts only students who sat for placements, so ask the college for its batch-wise report, the number of students who registered, and the number who received offers.
A BA often pays off after a postgraduate step. The table shows what each common route actually requires.
| Career path after BA | What it usually requires |
|---|---|
| Clinical psychologist | RCI-recognised postgraduate qualification in clinical psychology |
| School teacher | B.Ed after the degree, plus a teacher eligibility test where applicable |
| Civil services | Any bachelor's degree, then the UPSC or KPSC examination cycle |
| Journalist or reporter | Portfolio and internships; a mass communication PG helps |
| HR executive | MBA or PGDM in HR is often preferred |
| Content or UX writer | Published portfolio; no postgraduate degree needed |
The teaching route runs through a B.Ed route into teaching, and management-minded graduates can review MBA options after graduation before picking their specialization.
BA Admission in Bangalore for 2027
BA admission Bangalore 2027 follows three routes, and the right one depends on the type of college. Karnataka's II PUC results usually arrive in April and degree applications open soon after, so confirm exact dates on the college or university notice. Students still finishing school can compare PU college options for 11th and 12th first.
3 Admission Routes Compared
1. Merit at most affiliated colleges. Admission runs on PUC or 12th marks from a recognised board. ABBS lists a 50% minimum for its own programme; the cut-off at other colleges varies, so read each prospectus. National College in Basavanagudi is one directory listing that offers BA on this route.
2. Entrance test and interview at some private universities. ABBS reports that Christ University uses an entrance test, a micro-presentation and a personal interview, and that St Joseph's University uses its own entrance test plus an interview. These processes run outside the affiliated-college merit lists.
3. Distance and open learning. Promilo lists IGNOU, Bangalore University's Directorate of Correspondence Education, Annamalai University's DDE and Jain University's online centre. Check the programme's UGC recognition before paying.
5 Documents Required for BA Admission in Bangalore
- PUC or 12th marks card and passing certificate (originals plus photocopies)
- SSLC or 10th marks card
- Transfer certificate from the last institution
- Caste or income certificate, if you are applying under a reserved category
- Aadhaar card and passport-size photographs
This is the typical list; each college publishes its own, and students from other boards or states may need a migration certificate as well.
Students still choosing between arts and commerce can look at the BCom admission route, and anyone shortlisting seats can read how our admission assistance works before applying.
Where Fee Support Comes From
Central post-matric scholarships for eligible SC, ST, OBC and minority students are applied for on the National Scholarship Portal, and Karnataka runs its own State Scholarship Portal for state schemes. Income limits and amounts are revised by the departments each year, so read the current notification instead of relying on a number quoted in an old article.
How to Choose Between BA Colleges in Bangalore
Rankings measure institutional reputation, not your outcome, so the best BA colleges in Bangalore for you are the ones that fit your next step. Work through four questions in this order.
Factor 1: What comes after the BA? For civil services or state exams, a lower-fee government or aided college leaves money and time for exam preparation. For corporate roles, look for a placement cell that publishes batch-wise numbers. For teaching, plan the B.Ed early.
Factor 2: Total cost. Multiply the annual fee by three, then add hostel or commute costs. Compare that total with the NIRF and accreditation status the college publishes.
Factor 3: The exact specialization. Not every college offers every specialization, so confirm the combination in writing. If two colleges offer the same one, pick the college that shows you its faculty list and internship tie-ups.
Factor 4: Commute. Bangalore traffic often adds an hour or more each way, and a shorter commute is worth more than a marginally better brand.
Students open to other cities can compare degree colleges in Mysore, Hassan's degree colleges and Mangalore's degree colleges, where living costs are usually lower. Undecided between streams? Read the guide on courses after 12th commerce, consider BCA as an alternative path, or use choosing a college by career goal as a checklist. St Claret College lists a top package of ₹20 to ₹24 lakh from a smaller batch. Ask each college for its batch-wise placement report before deciding.
