About Smt AA Patil College of Arts and Commerce for Women
Smt AA Patil College of Arts and Commerce for Women was founded in 1986 by the Chikodi Taluka Education Society to address the near-absence of women's higher education in the border taluks of Belagavi district. From an initial intake of 85 students, enrolment has grown past 860.
BA programmes in Kannada, English, Hindi, History, Political Science and Sociology form the arts stream. BCom serves commerce students. Physical education and sports programmes have produced over 70 university-level athletes. The 7.5-acre campus houses a library with 17,000 volumes, a computer lab and an auditorium.
Chikodi sits near the Karnataka-Maharashtra border, and many students come from families with cross-border ties. Affiliation to Rani Channamma University, Belagavi, and NAAC accreditation provide the institutional framework. The college remains one of the few dedicated women's institutions between Belagavi and Kolhapur.
