About Govt First Grade College Raichur City
Raichur city's second government degree college was established in 2006 on Lingasur Road, near the KEB School campus. In fewer than two decades, Government First Grade College Raichur City has grown into one of the busiest GFGCs in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region, enrolling over 4,000 students — a figure that puts it among the top five government colleges in the entire Gulbarga University jurisdiction by headcount.
The six-acre campus runs BA, BCom, BSc, BCA, BBA, MCom, and MSc (Mathematics) programmes. Nineteen faculty members staff the departments. NAAC has accredited the college at B grade, recognising its rapid build-out of lab infrastructure and library holdings since the mid-2010s. The MSc Mathematics programme is a draw for students from across Raichur and neighbouring Sindhanur who want a postgraduate degree without relocating to Kalaburagi.
Raichur district headquarters is a railway junction town with direct lines to Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. The college's location on Lingasur Road — one of the town's main arterials — makes it accessible by city bus from most residential areas. Its explosive growth from a startup GFGC to a 4,000-student institution within 18 years speaks to unmet demand for government-subsidised higher education in a district where per-capita income remains among the lowest in Karnataka.
