Raichur University

Adikavi Sri Maharshi Valmiki University, commonly known as Raichur University, is a public state university on the Krishnatunga Campus near Yeragera village on NH-167 in Raichur district. Established in 2021 under an Act of the Karnataka Legislature, the university is named after Adikavi Valmiki, the author of the Ramayana. The institution previously operated as a Post-Graduate Centre of Gulbarga University.

The university occupies a 250-acre campus surrounded by hills and forest, with jurisdiction covering the Raichur and Yadgiri districts. Academic work is organised into four faculties (Arts, Science & Technology, Commerce, and Social Science) encompassing 18 departments. UG programmes include BA, BCA, BSW, BBA, B.Com, and B.Sc, while PG offerings span MA, M.Com, M.Sc, MSW, MJMC, and M.Lib.I.Sc. PhD programmes with coursework are available across disciplines.

Campus infrastructure includes a central library, science and computing laboratories, hostels, an auditorium, a stadium, and support services including a bank branch and post office. The entire campus has Wi-Fi coverage. University governance follows the syndicate and academic council structure, with examinations managed through the UUCMS portal.

The first Vice-Chancellor was Prof. Harish Ramaswamy, appointed in 2020. The current Vice-Chancellor is Dr. Shivananda Kelaginamani. Raichur University holds UGC recognition and operates under the chancellorship of the Governor of Karnataka. The university was established as part of the state initiative to expand higher education infrastructure in the historically underserved Hyderabad-Karnataka region.
