Bidar University

Bidar University is a public state university at Halahalli, Bhalki taluk in Bidar district, established in 2021 and formally inaugurated on March 28, 2023 by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai. The university sits on a 322-acre campus named Gnyana Karanji and was created to serve higher education needs in the historically underserved northern Karnataka region.

Before gaining independent university status, the institution operated as a Post-Graduate Centre under Gulbarga University for 27 years. Today it offers postgraduate programmes in Mathematics, Computer Science, Chemistry, Sugar Technology, Commerce, Social Work, Women's Studies, Political Science, Sociology, Economics, Kannada, English, and Urdu. MBA, MCA, and additional M.Sc programmes in Botany, Zoology, and Physics were introduced in the 2023-24 academic year.

The university affiliates 124 institutions across Bidar district: 100 degree colleges, 23 B.Ed colleges, and its own PG campus. Affiliated colleges offer BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BCA, BBA, B.Voc., and B.Ed programmes. Around 600 PG students study on the main campus, supported by over 80 teaching and non-teaching staff.

Campus facilities include dedicated laboratories for Chemistry, Computer Science, and Sugar Technology, a library holding 9,000+ books and journals, hostels for both men and women, Wi-Fi connectivity, and CCTV-monitored security. The Sugar Technology department is a distinctive feature, reflecting the sugar industry belt across North Karnataka's economy. Bidar University is recognised by UGC and the Government of Karnataka.
