Kodagu University

Kodagu University is a public state university at the Jnana Kaveri Campus in Chikka Aluvara near Kushalnagar, Kodagu district. The institution began as a Post-Graduate Centre of Mangalore University, with the foundation stone laid on November 15, 2010 by Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa. It was inaugurated as a PG Centre on January 7, 2014 and upgraded to full university status in March 2023 under the Karnataka State Universities (Amendment) Act of 2022.

The university operates from a 70.47-acre campus and affiliates approximately 34 colleges. PG departments include Biochemistry, Microbiology, Yogic Science, Commerce, Kannada, History, Political Science, Botany, Chemistry, and Computer Science. PhD programmes are available in Biochemistry and Microbiology. A diploma and certification in Kodava language and Yogic sciences is also offered.

Campus facilities include science and humanities blocks, a guest house, hostels, a library with 10,000+ books, research and computer laboratories, Wi-Fi connectivity, and security with CCTV coverage. The Vice-Chancellor is Prof. Ashok S. Alur.

Kodagu University serves students from Kodagu and nearby districts including Mysuru, Hassan, and Dakshina Kannada. Kodagu, situated in the Western Ghats, is one of Karnataka's smallest districts by area and population. The university provides a local higher education option for students in this hill region who previously needed to travel to Mangalore or Mysore for postgraduate study. The university holds recognition from the Government of Karnataka.
