About Karnataka State Womens University

Karnataka State Akkamahadevi Women's University (formerly Karnataka State Women's University, renamed in 2017 after the 12th-century poet-saint Akkamahadevi) is a public state university in Vijayapura (Bijapur), established in August 2003 as the first and only state women's university in Karnataka.

Eight departments operate: Humanities (Kannada, English, Hindi, Urdu, Performing Arts), Social Sciences, Science and Technology (Biotechnology, Chemistry, Electronics, Physics, Mathematics), Management Studies, Education and Research, Physical Education, Sports, and Yoga Studies. Programmes span UG (BA, BBA, BCA, B.Com, B.Ed, Fashion Technology, Home Science, B.Sc, BSW), PG (MA, M.Sc, M.Com, MBA, MCA, M.Ed), and research degrees (M.Phil, PhD). Over 32 PG and certificate courses are available.

The university affiliates women's colleges across 13 districts of North Karnataka, with a PG Centre at Sindhanoor and an extension centre at Mandya. UGC recognised under Sections 2(f) and 12(B), with NAAC B Grade and KSURF 4-star rating.

Research spans Computer Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Life Sciences & Biotechnology, Physical Sciences, and Mathematical Sciences. Campus facilities include a library, hostels, health centre with ambulance, ICT cell, and bank branch. The placement cell provides resume and interview coaching. Named after Akkamahadevi, a Veerashaiva poet-saint and early advocate for women's empowerment, the university expands women's access to higher education in historically underserved northern Karnataka districts.
