About Government Ayurveda Medical College Mysuru

About Government Ayurveda Medical College Mysuru

Government Ayurveda Medical College, Mysuru was founded in 1907 under the patronage of Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV — the same Mysore king who commissioned the Mysore Palace lighting. That makes it one of the six oldest Ayurveda colleges in India and the oldest government Ayurveda institution in Karnataka. It is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bengaluru and approved by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), New Delhi.

The college sits on Irwin Road, Mysuru — about 1.5 km from Mysuru City railway station and 800 metres from KR Hospital. The attached government teaching hospital has 200 beds across OPD and IPD. Government status means the BAMS programme here costs a fraction of what private Ayurveda colleges charge — government quota annual fee has historically been under ₹15,000, compared to ₹60,000–₹1,20,000 at private RGUHS colleges.

Courses, Seats and Fees

CourseDurationSeatsAnnual Fee (Approx)

MD Ayurveda (Kayachikitsa, Panchakarma, Shalya, Prasuti)3 Years20–24₹20,000–₹25,000 (Govt quota)

Management quota seats (if any) are allocated by the Karnataka Private Medical Colleges Association — fees under management quota are significantly higher. Confirm current seat matrix with RGUHS before the counselling round.

Admission Process

BAMS admission is entirely through NEET UG score and KEA Karnataka Ayurveda counselling. There is no direct admission — all 60 seats fill through KEA rounds. Government quota (85%) fills at competitive NEET ranks — in recent years, Karnataka government quota BAMS NEET cutoff has been in the 300–380 score range (general category). Management quota (15%) is allocated by KAPCA. MD Ayurveda admission is through AIAPGET (All India Ayush PG Entrance Test) conducted by NTA. Candidates must have a BAMS degree with 55% marks and a valid AIAPGET score for PG counselling through RGUHS.

Hospital and Clinical Training

The 200-bed attached hospital runs OPD across Kayachikitsa (general medicine), Shalakya (ENT and ophthalmology), Prasuti and Stree Roga (obstetrics), Panchakarma, Kaumarabhritya (paediatrics) and Shalya Tantra (surgery). OPD footfall at this government hospital is significantly higher than most private Ayurveda colleges because of the subsidised consultation fees — which gives BAMS students broader clinical exposure. The Panchakarma ward uses classical formulations from the college's attached pharmacy unit.

Career Scope

BAMS graduates from government colleges have an advantage in Karnataka health department recruitment — AYUSH Medical Officer posts specifically prefer RGUHS government college alumni in state PSC notifications. Other paths: MD Ayurveda at RGUHS, private Panchakarma clinic in Mysuru's growing wellness tourism sector, or central government AYUSH Ministry posts. Mysuru's wellness tourism industry — centred around yoga, Panchakarma and naturopathy — employs a steady number of BAMS graduates each year.
