About Karnataka Samskrit University
Karnataka Samskrit University is a public state university on Pampa Mahakavi Road in Chamarajpet, Bengaluru, established in 2010 to develop and promote Sanskrit language, literature, and allied traditional knowledge systems. The university holds UGC affiliation and NAAC A Grade accreditation.
Departments are organised under four faculties. The Faculty of Language covers Samskrit Language & Literature and Manuscriptology. The Faculty of Shastra teaches Vyakarana (Grammar), Nyaya & Vaisheshika (Logic and Atomism), and Alankara Shastra (Aesthetics). The Faculty of Vedanta covers Vedantic Studies, and Ancient Sciences includes Yoga Therapy & Counselling. Programmes range from BA (Vidvanmadhyamaa) and MA (Vidvaduttamaa) through M.Phil, PhD, and D.Litt.
The university affiliates 2 constituent, 10 aided, and 9 unaided Sanskrit colleges. The Directorate of Sanskrit Education oversees 354 recognised Sanskrit pathashalas and 243 aided Veda and Sanskrit pathashalas statewide. A 100-acre expansion campus is identified at Kuduru Hobli, Ramanagar District.
Research centres include Astrology and Jyotishya Study Centers, a Centre for Pali and Prakrit Studies, and a Manuscriptology Museum. The library operates E-Granthalaya digital management. The Vice-Chancellor is Dr. S. Ahalya. The mission integrates ancient Indian knowledge with modern science and technology, bridging traditional scholarship with contemporary academic frameworks.
