About BLDEA's College of Architecture and Planning
BLDEA's College of Architecture and Planning, established in 2003, is part of the BLD Education Association (BLDEA) in Vijayapura — the trust that also operates BLDEA's Shri B.M. Patil Medical College, BLDEA's College of Engineering and Technology, a dental college, and a law college. It offers B.Arch affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, approved by the Council of Architecture, with NAAC B+ accreditation. The college serves students from Vijayapura, Bagalkot, Bidar, and Raichur districts who want architecture education without the cost and distance of relocating to Bengaluru. Vijayapura's position as the seat of the medieval Adil Shahi Sultanate provides an extraordinary architectural heritage context: Gol Gumbaz (the world's second-largest dome after St. Peter's Basilica), Ibrahim Rauza, Jod Gumbaz, the Citadel walls, and numerous other Adil Shahi monuments are within walking or cycling distance of the campus. Architecture students have these live examples of pre-Mughal Deccan Islamic architecture available as study objects — measuring, documenting, and analysing construction techniques, spatial organisation, and formal geometry in structures built between the 15th and 17th centuries. This heritage proximity is a uniquely rich pedagogical resource that most Indian architecture colleges cannot replicate. Design studios, CAD labs, and a model-making workshop support the standard B.Arch curriculum. BLDEA Trust governance provides financial stability and management consistency. Hostel facilities are available for both male and female students. Graduates enter architecture firms in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune. Admission is through NATA and 10+2 marks. For architecture aspirants from north Karnataka who want CoA-approved B.Arch education in a city with exceptional architectural heritage, this college offers a combination found nowhere else in the region.
