About Azim Premji University

Azim Premji University is a private university in Sarjapura, Bengaluru, established in 2010 under the Azim Premji University Act by the Azim Premji Foundation (founded 2001). Created by Wipro chairman Azim Premji, the university focuses on education, development, and public policy rather than conventional career-oriented programmes. A second 50-acre campus in Bhopal opened in July 2023.

The Bengaluru campus spans 110 acres and offers four-year undergraduate programmes (BA and B.Sc) in Economics, Social Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Information Science, Environmental Science & Sustainability, English, History, and Philosophy. PG programmes include MA in Education, Development, Economics, Public Health, and Public Policy & Governance, plus LLM in Law and Development. Admissions are through CUET. Over 150 short professional courses are also available.

The university holds UGC recognition and NAAC A Grade accreditation, with NIRF placement in the 151-200 band (University category). The student body numbers 2,190 (1,309 UG, 881 PG) taught by 135 faculty, with 4,382+ graduates to date.

Research centres include the Centre for Sustainability (2019), Centre for Sustainable Employment and Livelihoods (2017), and Centre for Local Democracy (2020). Initiatives include Anuvada Sampada (translation repository, 450 translators), the Schoolbooks Archive (5,724 items dating to 1819), and publications iWonder and At Right Angles. The 43,837 sq ft library holds 51,981+ books and is open to the public. Around 90% of graduates work in the social sector.
