About Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University Bellary
Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University (VSKU) is a state university in Ballari (Bellary), Karnataka, established in 2010 under the Karnataka State Universities Act, 2000. Named after Emperor Krishnadevaraya of the historic Vijayanagara Empire, the university was carved out from Gulbarga University to serve the educational needs of the Hyderabad-Karnataka region. It is recognised by UGC, AICTE, NCTE, and AIU, and holds NAAC C grade accreditation.
The main campus, Jnana Sagara, occupies 95.37 acres at Vinayaka Nagar, Ballari. VSKU has 28 academic departments offering over 80 courses across undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, certificate, and doctoral levels in streams including arts, science, commerce, management, education, engineering, law, and computer applications. The university operates four postgraduate centres: the main campus, Nandihalli (Sandur), Koppal (established 2016), and Yelburga (established 2017).
VSKU has jurisdiction over Ballari, Koppal, and Vijayanagara districts, with approximately 120 colleges affiliated to the university. At the main campus, 21 PG programmes are offered; 10 at Nandihalli, 10 at Koppal, and 7 at Yelburga. Courses range from traditional BA, BSc, BCom, and MA programmes to professional degrees like MBA, MCA, and MEd.
Placement outcomes include a 60%+ placement rate with the highest package recorded at Rs 18 LPA and an average around Rs 3 LPA. Notable recruiters include HSBC, Wipro, TCS, Infosys, and Accenture. The university celebrated its decennial in July 2020. VSKU serves as the primary higher education institution for one of Karnataka's educationally developing regions, with a focus on expanding access to quality postgraduate and research education in the northern districts.
