University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences Shivamogga

Keladi Shivappa Nayaka University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences (KSNUAHS) Shivamogga, established in 2012 under Karnataka Act No. 38 of 2012, is the first integrated university in Karnataka to have both agricultural and horticultural sciences under a single university. It was carved out of UAS Bangalore and UHS Bagalkot to serve the seven districts of Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu, Davanagere, and Chitradurga. The university headquarters is at Iruvakki campus in Shivamogga, located in the middle of a forested area that reflects the university's ecological focus. The university offers B.Sc Agriculture, B.Sc Horticulture, and B.Sc Forestry at the UG level, with MSc in 14 disciplines (6 in Agriculture, 6 in Horticulture, 2 in Forestry) and PhD in 5 disciplines. Admission to UG programmes is through KCET. PG admissions are through NTA-ICAR entrance exam. KSNUAHS runs 9 agricultural and horticultural research stations across its jurisdiction, including Krishi Vigyan Kendras in Shivamogga, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, and Chitradurga. Special research centres include the Organic Farming Research Centre, the Areca Research Centre, the Cashew Technology Centre, and a Centre for Climate and Meteorology. The university has 13 All India Coordinated Research Projects and 33 privately funded projects. It holds patents including a Mini Hand-Operated Groundnut Sheller and has developed package of practices for seven major crops under organic farming. Median salary for UG graduates is Rs. 4,80,000 per annum and Rs. 7,20,000 for PG graduates as per NIRF data. The placement cell conducts mock interviews, aptitude tests, and group discussions to prepare students for government and private sector roles. Facilities include a library, indoor and outdoor sports, cafeteria, gym, and hostels for boys and girls. Shivamogga Airport is approximately 22 km from the main campus.
