About St Josephs University
St Joseph's University is a private aided Jesuit university on Lalbagh Road in Bengaluru, adjacent to the Lalbagh Botanical Garden. Its origins trace to 1882, with roots going back to 1854 as St. Joseph's European High School. Italian Jesuits from Venice assumed management in 1937. The institution received its university charter on July 2, 2022, inaugurated by President Droupadi Murmu on September 27, 2022.
The university is organised into nine schools: Business; Chemical Sciences; Humanities & Social Sciences; Languages & Literatures; Life Sciences; Physical Sciences; Social Work; Communication & Media Studies; and Information Technology. It operates five college campuses, three high schools, and one pre-university college, offering 61+ courses. Notable programmes include B.Com with ACCA partnership, B.Voc in Digital Media, M.Sc Cyber Security, and M.Sc Data Analytics.
St Joseph's holds NAAC A++ Grade (CGPA 3.79/4, Cycle IV, 2017). UGC recognitions include College with Potential for Excellence (2004), autonomy (2005), College for Excellence (2014), and DST-FIST status (2015). India Post issued a commemorative stamp in 2009.
The university enrols approximately 9,800 students with 430+ faculty. Placement data for 2023-24: 553 UG and 567 PG students placed, median CTC INR 4.30 LPA (UG) and INR 4.80 LPA (PG), highest INR 12.8 LPA. Recruiters include Infosys, TCS, Deloitte, EY, Goldman Sachs, and JP Morgan. The campus features a 1,260-seat auditorium and a 12-inch Ritchey-Chretien telescope. Notable alumni include Rahul Dravid, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, and mathematician Sujatha Ramdorai (Padma Shri).
