About Regional Institute of Education Mysuru
Regional Institute of Education (RIE), Mysuru, established in 1963, is a constituent unit of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), Government of India — one of five such Regional Institutes across the country, each serving a specific geographic zone. RIE Mysuru serves the southern zone covering Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Puducherry. It offers an integrated B.Ed programme (4-year dual-degree combining subject specialisation with teacher education), M.Ed, MA (Education), M.Sc (Education), and a PhD programme. Unlike private and state government teacher education colleges, RIE is a central government institution — fees are negligible, admission is through a competitive all-India entrance test, and the academic rigour is significantly higher than most state B.Ed programmes. NAAC A accreditation confirms institutional quality. The curriculum is research-informed and regularly updated by NCERT, making it more contemporary than syllabi at most state-affiliated B.Ed colleges. RIE Mysuru graduates are eligible for Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) teacher posts — central government teaching positions with pay scales, job security, and service conditions substantially better than state government teaching jobs. CTET qualification is the standard route into these positions after RIE graduation. The spacious Manasagangothri campus in Mysuru has hostel facilities for both male and female students, a well-stocked educational research library, and proximity to the University of Mysore's academic ecosystem. For education aspirants who clear the entrance test, RIE Mysuru offers India's strongest combination of central government teacher education quality, negligible fees, and premium job placement in KVS and NVS schools.
