Govt First Grade College Savanur

Government First Grade College Savanur, formally designated Smt. Lalitadevi G. Sindhur Government First Grade College, was established in 1984 in Savanur town, Haveri district. Affiliated to Karnatak University, Dharwad, the college holds NAAC accreditation with a B grade and serves students from Savanur and surrounding taluks in north Karnataka.

The college offers undergraduate programmes in Arts, Commerce, and Science streams. BA programmes include combinations with History, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, Kannada, English, and Hindi. BCom and BSc follow the Karnatak University syllabus and semester examination pattern. The college operates under the Department of Collegiate Education, Government of Karnataka, with faculty positions filled through the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) recruitment process.

Savanur is located approximately 25 kilometres from Haveri city on the Haveri-Dharwad highway. The town holds a distinct historical identity as the seat of the Savanur Nawabs, a princely state that existed from the 17th century through British colonial rule. The Savanur Fort ruins, several mosques from the Nawab period, and traditional Indo-Islamic architecture give the town a character quite different from other small towns in the Haveri district.
