About Government Law College Hubli
Government Law College Hubli is one of the oldest law institutions in North Karnataka, established in 1948. Located in Hubballi (formerly Hubli), the college operates under the affiliation of Karnataka State Law University (KSLU), which is itself headquartered in the Hubli-Dharwad twin city. The college is approved by the Bar Council of India (BCI) and serves as a primary centre for legal education in the region.
The college offers a three-year LL.B programme with an intake of 120 seats per batch. This programme is open to graduates from any discipline and covers core legal subjects including constitutional law, criminal law, civil procedure, contract law, property law, jurisprudence, labour law, environmental law, and legal ethics. Students appear for examinations conducted by KSLU.
As a government institution, the college provides legal education at highly subsidised fees, making it accessible to students from economically weaker sections and first-generation learners across the districts of Dharwad, Haveri, Gadag, and Uttara Kannada. Students from reserved categories benefit from fee concessions and state government scholarship schemes.
Hubballi's position as a commercial and judicial centre in North Karnataka provides students with practical exposure through the Dharwad bench of the Karnataka High Court, district and sessions courts, and the taluk-level judiciary. The college has produced generations of advocates, public prosecutors, and judicial officers who serve across the Karnataka legal system. The presence of KSLU in the same city gives students direct access to the university's central library, moot court competitions, legal aid programmes, and seminars organised at the university campus.
