About BVVS Ayurveda Medical College Bagalkot
BVVS Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital in Bagalkot is run by the Basaveshwar Vidya Vardhak Sangha, one of North Karnataka's well-known educational trusts. The college was established in 1998 and is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bangalore, with approval from the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM), New Delhi.
The college offers BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) — a 5.5-year programme including one year of compulsory internship. Annual intake is 100 seats at the UG level. Four postgraduate departments are active: Dravyaguna, Rasashastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana, Kayachikitsa, and Panchakarma.
Admission to BAMS is through NEET UG scores. After NEET results, KEA conducts centralised AYUSH counselling for Karnataka state quota seats (85% of total seats). Management quota seats are filled directly by the college. NRI quota seats are also available.
The campus library holds over 12,000 books including rare Ayurvedic texts, HELINET digital access, and national and international journals. The teaching hospital has separate OPD and IPD with Panchakarma therapy units. Separate hostel facilities for boys and girls are available on campus.
BAMS graduates from this college can register with the Karnataka Ayurvedic Practitioners Board and practice as Ayurvedic physicians. Career options include clinical practice, government AYUSH medical officer posts, pharmaceutical industry, Panchakarma centres, wellness centres, and clinical research organisations.
