Athena Institute of Health Sciences is a private nursing and allied health institution in Mangaluru, Karnataka, operating as a unit of Athena Hospital under the Akshath Charitable Trust. The institute traces its origins to 2003 when nursing education began under the Athena Hospital umbrella, with allied health science programmes added from 2017 onward. It is recognised as a Christian Minority Educational Institution welcoming students from all communities.
Affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bengaluru, and approved by the Indian Nursing Council (INC) and Karnataka State Nursing Council, the institute offers a comprehensive range of health science programmes. Nursing courses include Diploma in GNM (3.5 years), B.Sc Nursing (4 years), Post Basic B.Sc Nursing (2 years), and M.Sc Nursing with specialisations in Community Health, Obstetrics and Gynaecological, Mental Health, Paediatric, and Medical Surgical Nursing.
Allied health programmes cover B.Sc Medical Laboratory Technology, B.Sc Operation Theatre Technology, B.Sc Renal Dialysis Technology, B.Sc Medical Imaging Technology, B.Sc Emergency and Trauma Care Technology, B.Sc Respiratory Care Technology, B.Sc Anaesthesia and OT Technology, and Bachelor of Occupational Therapy. Total capacity across all programmes is approximately 214 seats.
Located in the Falnir-Bendoor area of Mangaluru, the institute has 496 current students, 42 faculty members, and has produced over 2,183 graduates to date. The library houses 3,450+ books and 10 journals. Clinical training takes place at the attached Athena Hospital, providing students with direct patient-care experience across multiple departments. The institute offers hostel facilities and placement support for graduates.
