What is JoSAA Seat Matrix?
The JoSAA Seat Matrix is the official seat distribution table used for counselling. It shows how many seats are offered in each institute and branch, and how those seats are split by quota and category. This data comes from the counselling authority and participating institutes, so it is the best reference for seat availability.
Seat matrix answers these questions
• Is this branch available in this college in this year?
• How many seats are available in this branch?
• Do Home State and Other State quotas apply?
• How many seats are reserved for EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST and PwD?
• Are there female-only seats or gender-neutral seats for this program?
Important Note About Seat Matrix 2026 (Updated March 8, 2026)
JoSAA publishes the seat matrix for the counselling session. Right now, the official JoSAA website header and seat matrix page are still showing Admission and eCounselling Services for Session 2025. That means the 2026 seat matrix is not published yet.
For a 2026 plan, use the latest available official seat matrix (2025) to estimate seat availability. When JoSAA 2026 starts, update this page with the new seat matrix and highlight changes such as new branches, seat increase or seat reduction.

JoSAA 2026 Seat Matrix – How to Use It for Choice Filling
The JoSAA seat matrix lists total available seats at every IIT, NIT, IIIT and GFTI across all programmes and categories. Understanding how to read and use the seat matrix is essential for effective choice filling during JoSAA counselling.
Seat types in the matrix: Every institute row shows seats split by category – Open (General Merit), OBC-NCL, SC, ST, EWS, and within each, PwD sub-categories. The seat count shown is the total for that category at that programme. During choice filling, you compete only within your category – your rank in your category determines your allotment, not your overall rank.
Home state quota: NITs have two seat pools – All India quota and Home State quota. Karnataka domicile students competing for NIT Karnataka (NITK Surathkal) have a separate Home State quota with relaxed cutoffs. Always check Home State quota seats separately in the matrix when filling NIT choices.
