KCET 2026
Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA)
KCET (Karnataka Common Entrance Test) is the state-level entrance exam conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) for admission to Engineering, Pharmacy, Agriculture, Naturopathy, and Yoga courses at government, government-aided, and private colleges across Karnataka. Along with NEET (for Medical/Dental) and separate exams for a handful of specialised streams, KCET is the primary gateway most Karnataka students use to secure a professional degree seat.
How KCET Rank Is Calculated
Your KCET rank isn't based on your exam score alone. KEA uses a 50:50 weightage formula — 50% from your KCET exam marks and 50% from your 2nd PUC (or equivalent) board marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology. This means two students with identical KCET scores can end up with ranks that differ by 10,000-20,000 places depending on their board performance. Strong PUC marks can meaningfully offset a weaker KCET attempt, and vice versa.
Who Should Write KCET
Any Karnataka-domicile student who has completed (or is completing) 2nd PUC with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics or Biology is eligible. KCET is mandatory for admission to government and government-aided engineering, pharmacy, and agriculture colleges under the KEA quota. Private colleges also fill a portion of their seats through KCET, alongside COMEDK UGET and management quota.
KCET Counselling Process
After results are declared, KEA runs a multi-step counselling process:
- Document verification: Upload and verify eligibility documents online
- Option entry (choice filling): Rank colleges and branches in order of preference
- Mock allotment: A trial run showing where you'd land based on current choices — not final, but a chance to revise
- Seat allotment (Round 1, 2, and extended rounds): Actual seats allotted based on rank, category, and choices
- Reporting and fee payment: Confirm your allotted seat within the given window
Missing any single step — even with a strong rank — can disqualify you from that round. Karnataka reservation categories (SC, ST, OBC categories 1/2A/2B/3A/3B) receive rank relaxation at every stage.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is KCET compulsory for engineering admission in Karnataka?
KCET is required for government and government-aided college seats under KEA counselling. Private colleges also accept COMEDK UGET, and management quota seats don't use KCET rank at all — though the college may still require a valid KCET qualification.
How is the KCET rank different from the KCET score?
Your score is out of the total exam marks (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology papers). Your rank is derived using the 50:50 formula combining that score with your 2nd PUC board marks — the rank, not the raw score, is what determines your counselling position.
Can students from other states write KCET?
KCET is primarily for Karnataka-domicile students competing for the state quota. Non-Karnataka students can still apply to Karnataka colleges through COMEDK UGET or management quota, depending on the college.
What happens if I miss the mock allotment step?
Mock allotment isn't compulsory, but skipping it means you go into Round 1 final allotment with your original, unrevised option list. Reviewing the mock allotment and adjusting choices is one of the highest-leverage steps in the entire process.
