About Taranath Govt Ayurvedic Medical College Ballari
Taranath Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital (TGAMC) at Dr. Rajkumar Road (Anantapur Road), Ballari — 583101 is one of Karnataka's oldest Ayurveda institutions, originally founded by the disciples of Pandit Taranathji in 1947 — a few months before Indian independence. Pandit Taranath had established "Premayatana or Prema VidyaPeet" near Tungabhadra village under the Madras province, where he taught Ayurveda, Yoga and music in the Gurukula tradition. The Government of Karnataka took over the college in 1976 and it has since operated as a fully government-funded institution.
TGAMC offers BAMS (60 seats) and MD Ayurveda at the postgraduate level. The college is affiliated to RGUHS Bangalore and approved by CCIM, New Delhi. The 8-acre campus on Dr. Rajkumar Road has well-equipped departments, a library, laboratories, and hostel facilities. BAMS fees for government seats range from approximately ₹1,15,875 to ₹1,34,500 — significantly lower than private Ayurveda colleges. Internship students receive a monthly stipend.
Admission is through NEET UG scores via KEA AYUSH centralised counselling for state quota seats (85% of seats) and AACCC for the 15% All India Quota. PG admissions use AIAPGET scores.
The attached teaching hospital is well-known in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region for Panchakarma treatment, attracting patients from Ballari, Koppal, Raichur, and border districts of Andhra Pradesh. This consistent patient inflow gives BAMS students hands-on clinical exposure across Ayurvedic specialities during their training years.
