About St Aloysius Deemed to be University

St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangalore, was established in 1880 as St Aloysius College by the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) -- a global Catholic religious order running schools, colleges, and universities in over 105 countries. The institution is located at St Aloysius College Road, Kodialbail, Mangaluru -- Karnataka 575003, in the heart of Mangalore city, 1.6 km from Mangalore Railway Station. UGC granted Deemed University status on 19 January 2024. Rev. Dr. Praveen Martis, SJ, is the first Vice Chancellor. NAAC accredited: A++ grade, CGPA 3.67/4 (4th cycle, April 2023). Rankings: NIRF 2025 -- 73rd in the College category. Approved by UGC, AICTE, NCTE, and BCI.

The campus has two distinctive heritage landmarks. The St Aloysius Chapel (1885), built by Rev. Father Joseph Willy, is a replica of the Sistine Chapel at Rome -- its interior paintings are a significant cultural landmark in Mangalore and a tourist attraction. The Aloyseum (college museum, established 1913 by Italian Jesuit Fr. Chiapi) houses minerals, herbarium, Roman coins, and artefacts -- one of the oldest college museums in Karnataka. The main campus also has an open-air Mother Teresa Theatre ("katte"), Radio Sarang community radio station, Alvana Arboretum (botanical conservation), Olympic-standard swimming pool, and STAR Status under the Government of India Department of Biotechnology.

St Aloysius offers 78+ full-time programmes: UG (BBA, BA, BCom, BSc, BCA, BVoc), PG (MA, MCom, MSW, MSc, MCA, MBA), and PhD across 9+ disciplines. A separate AIMIT (St Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology) campus at Kotekar, Mangalore (12.6 km from Mangaluru Junction) offers MBA (240 seats, Rs 5.11 lakh) and MCA (120 seats, Rs 2.40 lakh).
