About SJG Ayurvedic Medical College Koppal
Shree Jagadguru Gavisiddeshwara Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital (SJGAMC) is located in the Sri Gavimath Campus, Banikatti, Koppal — 583231, Karnataka. It was established in 1996-97 by the Shree Gavisiddheshwara Vidya Vardhak Trust, rooted in the thousand-year legacy of Shree Gavimath. The college is affiliated to RGUHS Bangalore and recognised by NCISM (National Commission for Indian System of Medicine), New Delhi, and the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India.
SJGAMC started with 25 BAMS seats in 1996 and expanded to 100 seats from 2019-20 onwards, making it one of the larger Ayurveda colleges in North Karnataka. The college has all 14 departments as per CCIM norms. PG programmes (MD and MS Ayurveda) are also offered. The institution publishes an international peer-reviewed biannual research journal in Ayurveda.
The teaching hospital has 208 beds with both OPD and IPD facilities. The campus has a herbal garden spanning approximately 3 acres with medicinal plant specimens used in practical training. The library holds over 12,000 books on Ayurvedic subjects. Separate hostels for boys and girls are available.
Admission to BAMS is through NEET UG scores via KEA AYUSH centralised counselling for state quota seats. Management quota seats are filled on first-come-first-serve basis directly by the college. The Gavimath campus setting in Koppal makes this college particularly accessible for students from Koppal, Bellary, Raichur, and Yadgir districts.
BAMS graduates can register with the Karnataka Ayurvedic Practitioners Board and practise as AYUSH physicians. Government AYUSH medical officer posts, Panchakarma centres, pharmaceutical companies, wellness resorts, and hospital departments are the main employment sectors for graduates.
