Govt PU College Ramanagara

Government Pre-University College Ramanagara is a state-run pre-university institution in Ramanagara, a district headquarters approximately 50 kilometres southwest of Bengaluru on NH-275. Established in 1998 under the Department of Pre-University Education (DPUE), Government of Karnataka, the college offers the two-year Pre-University Course in Science, Commerce, and Arts streams.

The curriculum follows the PUE Board Karnataka syllabus and examination pattern. Science stream students select from PCMB (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology) and PCMC combinations for medical and engineering pathways respectively. Commerce covers Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, and Statistics, while Arts includes History, Political Science, Sociology, and language electives in Kannada and Hindi.

Ramanagara district is widely recognised as the Silk City of Karnataka for its dominant sericulture industry and some of the largest cocoon markets in Asia. The town also holds cultural significance as the filming location for the boulder chase sequences in the 1975 Hindi film Sholay, shot at the Ramadevara Betta hillock nearby, now a popular trekking and vulture conservation site. Students from surrounding taluks including Channapatna, Kanakapura, and Magadi access this college as the nearest government PU institution.

As a government college, tuition fees are state-prescribed at nominal levels, ensuring access for students from farming families and economically weaker sections. SC/ST and OBC students receive additional fee concessions and scholarships through the Karnataka State Scholarship Portal. The college provides the critical bridge between SSLC-level schooling and degree education for students across Ramanagara district.
