About Govt First Grade College Mandya
Government First Grade College Mandya, established in 1948, is one of the oldest government degree colleges in Karnataka. Operating as an autonomous institution affiliated to the University of Mysore, the college is spread across a 32-acre campus in Mandya city and holds NAAC accreditation with an A grade, placing it among the higher-rated government colleges in the state.
The college offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across Arts, Commerce, and Science streams. BA programmes include combinations with History, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, Kannada, English, and Hindi. BCom covers general and specialised streams. BSc is available with Physics-Chemistry-Mathematics and Chemistry-Botany-Zoology combinations. Postgraduate options include MA, MCom, and MSc in select subjects. As an autonomous institution, the college frames its own syllabi within the University of Mysore's regulatory framework, sets its own examinations, and confers degrees through the university.
The 32-acre campus houses academic blocks, science laboratories, a central library with over 80,000 volumes, hostel facilities for men and women, sports grounds with facilities for athletics and cricket, and dedicated areas for NCC and NSS activities. Both NCC and NSS units are active, with NSS conducting annual camps in surrounding rural communities as part of the college's social outreach programme.
Mandya city, the district headquarters situated 100 kilometres southwest of Bengaluru, is known as the Sugar City of Karnataka owing to the Mandya Sugar Factory established in the 1930s. The college draws students from across all seven taluks of Mandya district including Maddur, Pandavapura, KR Pet, Nagamangala, Srirangapatna, and Malavalli. Admissions for merit seats are processed through the University of Mysore's centralised counselling system, conducted each July following degree entrance results. The college's 76-year history and autonomous status make it the premier government degree institution in the district.
