π How NEET Cutoff Works in Karnataka
Karnataka has two types of MBBS seats: (1) State quota / government quota seats filled through KEA counselling based on NEET rank; (2) Management quota and NRI quota seats filled directly by colleges. KEA cutoffs are based on actual rank-wise allotments and change each year based on number of candidates and seats. Management quota has a lower bar β NMC minimum qualifying mark is 200 for General category.
NEET Minimum Qualifying Marks 2025 (NMC Rules)
| Category | Minimum NEET Percentile | Approximate Minimum Marks (out of 720) |
|---|---|---|
| General (UR) | 50th percentile | ~200 marks |
| OBC / SC / ST | 40th percentile | ~150 marks |
| General β PH | 45th percentile | ~175 marks |
| OBC/SC/ST β PH | 40th percentile | ~150 marks |
These are NMC minimum qualifying marks β not KEA counselling cutoffs. KEA cutoffs are significantly higher due to competition.

Management Quota β Minimum NEET Score Required
For management quota MBBS seats in Karnataka private colleges, the NMC mandates a minimum qualifying score of 200 marks for General category and 150 marks for SC/ST/OBC/PWD. However, individual colleges set their own benchmarks above this minimum. Colleges in Mangalore (Manipal, Father Muller) generally require higher scores even for management quota.
What If My NEET Score Is Below 350?
If your NEET score is below 350, you have limited options for MBBS government quota but may still qualify for management quota at some colleges (above NMC minimum). More importantly, you have excellent career options in:
- BDS (Dental Surgery): Also requires NEET but with lower cutoffs than MBBS. Government quota BDS cutoffs are typically 100β150 marks lower than MBBS.
- BSc Nursing: NEET not required. Strong career with growing demand.
- BPT (Physiotherapy): NEET not required. 4.5-year degree with good career scope.
- B.Pharma: NEET not required. Good career in pharmaceutical industry.
