About University of Horticultural Sciences Bagalkot
University of Horticultural Sciences (UHS) Bagalkot was established in 2008 by the Government of Karnataka through Ordinance No. 2 of 2008. It is the first horticultural university in Karnataka and the third in India. The university is recognised by UGC and accredited by ICAR. UHS Bagalkot received the ICAR National Excellence Award for securing first place in Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) Awards continuously for 2017 and 2018.
The university is located on a 73-acre campus in Bagalkot district, Karnataka. It offers BSc Horticulture (4 years), MSc Horticulture (2 years), PhD, Diploma, and BTech programmes across 9 specialisations including Fruit Science, Vegetable Science, Floriculture, Soil Science, Plant Pathology, Entomology, Food Technology, and Post-Harvest Technology. Total fee for BSc Horticulture is approximately Rs. 2,67,800 for the complete programme. Admission to BSc is through KCET conducted by KEA. PG admissions are through NTA-ICAR entrance exam.
Research facilities at UHS Bagalkot include state-of-the-art research laboratories, experimental farms, greenhouses, polyhouses, and net houses. The campus has a well-stocked library with horticulture journals, e-books, and reference texts. Facilities include a computer centre, sports complex, auditorium, cafeteria, bank, post office, and health centre. Separate hostels for boys and girls are available with mess, Wi-Fi, RO drinking water, a gym, indoor games, and reading rooms. Hostel fees range from Rs. 10,200 to Rs. 25,950 depending on the programme.
Placement at UHS Bagalkot is supported by a dedicated training and placement cell. As per NIRF 2025 data, median salary for UG students is Rs. 5,50,000 per annum and Rs. 6,60,000 for PG students. Recruiters include government horticulture departments, seed companies, agri-input firms, food processing companies, and NGOs. Scholarships are available including Vidhyasiri scholarship for hostel students and merit-based state scholarships. Neighbouring districts including Belagavi, Dharwad, Koppal, and Vijayapura are major horticulture production zones, providing students with a rich local industry environment.
