What is CSAB NEUT Counselling?

CSAB NEUT (Central Seat Allocation Board - North Eastern States and Union Territories) conducts online counselling for a special pool of seats reserved for eligible candidates from 8 North Eastern states (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura) and selected Union Territories (Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, and Ladakh). It also includes certain seats of NERIST, Itanagar. The counselling is run through the CSAB portal.

These seats are different from regular JoSAA or CSAB Special Round seats for NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. So if you are eligible under NEUT rules, you should apply separately to CSAB NEUT even if you are also participating in JoSAA or CSAB rounds.

Domicile and Category Rules - Why Document Verification Matters

In CSAB NEUT, your domicile/PRC and category claims are verified online by the respective DTEs of your State/UT and by NERIST (where applicable). If your documents are incomplete, unclear, or do not match the rules of your domicile state/UT, your registration can be rejected or your seat can be cancelled.

Before you register, keep these ready:

  •  PRC / domicile certificate (as per your State/UT rules)

  • Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS, if applicable)

  •  PwD certificate or UDID card, if applicable

  • Special benefit or sub-tribe documents (only if your state rules require it, like Manipur or Nagaland cases)

CSAB NEUT Counselling Fees and Seat Acceptance Fee

As per the latest official CSAB NEUT brochure, candidates pay a Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF) online during online reporting. The SAF amount mentioned in the latest brochure is Rs. 5,000. Fresh allottees in Round 2 typically pay the SAF if they are allotted a seat for the first time in Round 2.

Refund and withdrawal (based on latest brochure):

  • If you withdraw after being allotted a seat, the brochure mentions a refund of Rs. 4,000 out of Rs. 5,000 after the counselling process is over.

  •  If you do not report online or do not follow required steps within the deadline, your allotment can be cancelled, and the fee may be forfeited as per rules.

CSAB NEUT 2026 Counselling Process (Step-by-Step)

Step 1: Registration on CSAB Portal

Register on the CSAB portal during the registration window. Engineering/Architecture candidates generally log in using their JEE (Main) roll number and password created during exam registration. Pharmacy candidates usually create a login via a separate link (as per the latest brochure).

Step 2: Fill personal details and claims

Enter or verify your gender, domicile state/UT, category, PwD status, and any special benefit claims that apply to your state. Enter Class XII percentage details where required.

Step 3: Upload documents

Upload clear scanned copies (usually both sides in a single file) in PDF/JPG format. Use readable scans and avoid cut edges or glare.

Step 4: Document verification and query reply

DTEs/NERIST verify your domicile and category documents. If they raise a query, reply quickly with corrected documents or explanations. Your registration is finalized only after verification.

 Step 5: Choice filling

Fill in choices in the order of your real preference. Add enough safe options, not only dream branches. Lock choices before the deadline.

Step 6: Seat allotment (Round 1 and Round 2)

CSAB publishes allotment results. If allotted, you must do online reporting within the deadline.

Step 7: Online reporting + SAF payment + willingness

Pay the Seat Acceptance Fee online. Choose a willingness option - Float, Slide, or Freeze. If you Freeze, download the Provisional Admission Letter (PAL) and proceed to admission. If you Float/Slide, wait for the next round result.

Step 8: Download PAL and report to institute

After seat approval by the DTE/NERIST within the schedule, download PAL and report physically to the allotted institute with originals to complete admission.

Step 9: Spot round (if conducted)

If seats remain vacant, the respective State/UT/NERIST may conduct a spot round with separate instructions.

Documents Required for CSAB NEUT

Keep these ready before registration:

Photo ID proof (as per Government of India's accepted ID)

JEE (Main) admit card / application details (Engineering and Architecture)

        Class X certificate (DOB proof)

Class XII marks card / certificate

PRC / Domicile certificate for your State/UT (as per rules)

        Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS) if applicable

PwD certificate or UDID card if applicable

Any state-specific special benefit / sub-tribe documents (only if applicable)

Choice Filling Strategy for CSAB NEUT 2026

Start with your best-fit branch and institute, then add realistic branches you are willing to join.

Add enough backup choices. Many candidates lose seats because they keep only a few ambitious choices.

If you have location constraints, shortlist institutes first, then decide branch order.

Freeze only when you are sure you will take that seat. Float and Slide help for upgrades but require careful tracking of deadlines.

After Round 1, do not ignore online reporting. SAF payment is required to keep the seat as per rules.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Uploading unclear or incomplete domicile/PRC documents.
  • Not replying to a query raised during verification.
  • Not locking choices before deadline.
  • Missing online reporting deadline after allotment.
  • Paying the SAF but forgetting to select the willingness option if required.
