What is JEE Advanced 2026?

JEE (Advanced) is the national level entrance exam used for admission to the IITs and a few other participating institutes. In 2026, the organising institute is IIT Roorkee.

Who can appear for JEE Advanced 2026?

To avoid rejection, use this eligibility checklist before you register.

Eligibility checklist for Indian nationals

  • You must be among the top 250,000 successful candidates (all categories) in the B.E./B.Tech paper of JEE Main 2026.

  • Age: You should be born on or after October 1, 2001 (with category relaxations where applicable).

  • Attempts: Maximum 2 attempts in 2 consecutive years.

  • Class 12 (or equivalent): The first appearance must be in 2025 or 2026 with physics, chemistry, and mathematics as compulsory subjects.

  • Earlier IIT admission: You should not have been admitted to an IIT in any previous academic programme (as defined in the brochure).

Foreign nationals and OCI/PIO (F)

Foreign nationals and eligible OCI/PIO (F) candidates can register directly for JEE Advanced 2026 (they are not required to write JEE Main 2026), subject to the official eligibility conditions.

Important note for admission to IITs

  • 75% aggregate marks (65% for SC, ST and PwD), OR

  • Be in the top 20 percentile of your respective Board (as per the year of your examination).

JEE Advanced 2026 Exam Pattern

JEE Advanced 2026 is conducted only in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode. There are two compulsory papers on the same day.

  • Exam date: May 17, 2026 (Sunday).

  • Paper 1: 09:00 to 12:00 IST.

  • Paper 2: 14:30 to 17:30 IST.

  • Duration: 3 hours per paper (PwD candidates eligible for compensatory time as per rules).

  • Subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in both papers.

  • Important: Question types and marking can change year to year. Always follow the instructions shown during the test and on the official website.

JEE Advanced 2026 Syllabus

The official syllabus PDF is available on the JEE Advanced website. The syllabus for JEE Advanced 2026 remains the same as JEE Advanced 2025.

Do not rely only on coaching summaries. Download the official syllabus and map it with your Class 11 and 12 notes.

 How to prepare

  • This is a practical approach used by many serious aspirants.

  • Build a weekly routine: 3 subjects daily, with one mixed revision day per week.

  • Solve previous years papers and analyse mistakes. Focus on accuracy first, then speed.

  • Use mock tests to improve time management in CBT format. Practise sitting for both papers on the same day.

  • Maintain an error notebook: formula slips, concept gaps, and time-wasting question types.

  • Keep a fixed revision cycle: 1-day, 7-day, and 21-day revision for key chapters.

Answer key, response sheet, and result

After the exam, your recorded responses are shared on the candidate portal. Provisional answer keys are released first and a short window is provided for feedback.

  • Candidate responses: May 21, 2026 (17:00 IST).

  • Provisional answer keys: May 25, 2026 (10:00 IST).

  • Challenge window: May 25 (10:00) to May 26 (17:00 IST).

  • Final answer keys and result: June 1, 2026 (10:00 IST).

  • JoSAA uses JEE Advanced ranks for IIT seat allocation.

  • Be ready with certificates, Class 12 marksheet, and category documents for verification.

  • If you are aiming for BArch at IITs, you must register for AAT and qualify it.

Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT) 2026
