About BMS College of Engineering
BMS College of Engineering, founded in 1946 by Late Sri B.M. Sreenivasaiah, is Karnataka's oldest private engineering college. Nearly 80 years of continuous operation have built an alumni network that spans decades of Karnataka's engineering industry — a depth that newer colleges simply can't replicate. Located at Bull Temple Road, Basavanagudi, it's an autonomous VTU college with NAAC A+ accreditation in one of South Bangalore's most accessible central neighbourhoods.

Admission Process
Karnataka domicile students apply through KCET. Minimum eligibility: PCM in Class 12 with 45% aggregate (40% for SC/ST). CSE has historically closed between 500 and 1,500 GM — reachable for students who narrowly miss RVCE's cutoffs.
Fee Structure
| Category | Annual Tuition (Approx) |
|---|---|
| KCET / Government Quota | Rs. 1.1 lakh – 1.5 lakh per year |
| Management Quota | Rs. 2.5 lakh – 4 lakh per year |
| NRI Quota | USD 3,000 – 5,000 per year |
Placements
BMSCE places students with Infosys, Wipro, TCS, Accenture, and several product companies. The alumni base spanning 80 years opens doors — particularly for core engineering roles in established companies — that newer colleges can't match. CSE and ISE see the strongest placement activity.
Who Should Apply
BMSCE suits students with KCET ranks in the 500 – 3,000 GM range who want a VTU autonomous degree with a deep alumni network. The Basavanagudi location is excellent for Bangalore internship and placement access.
Who Should Look Elsewhere
If your rank reaches RVCE, take it — RVCE edges BMSCE on CSE product company placement perception. If your rank puts you in management quota territory at BMSCE, compare carefully against government quota seats at other colleges with your rank.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is BMSCE the same as BMSIT?
No. BMSCE (BMS College of Engineering, Basavanagudi, est. 1946) and BMSIT (BMS Institute of Technology, Yelahanka, est. 2002) are different colleges. Both are under the BMS Educational Trust but have separate campuses, faculty, and KCET codes.
What KCET rank is needed for CSE at BMSCE?
The GM closing rank for CSE has typically been 500 – 1,500 in recent KCET cycles. Verify at cetonline.karnataka.gov.in.
Does BMSCE offer M.Tech?
Yes — in CSE, ECE, Machine Design, VLSI, Power Electronics, and more. Admission through PGCET or GATE.
